MEDICARE INSURANCE

Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people who are 65 or older, certain younger people with disabilities, and people with end-stage renal disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant).

There are four parts to Medicare:

  • Part A covers hospital stays, skilled nursing care, hospice care, and some home health care.

  • Part B covers doctor visits, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services.

  • Part C (Medicare Advantage) is a private health insurance plan that replaces all or some of Parts A and B.

  • Part D covers prescription drugs.

When you're first eligible for Medicare, you'll need to decide which parts of Medicare you want to enroll in. You can sign up for Medicare online, by phone, or by mail.

There are a few things you need to know when selecting a Medicare plan:

  • Your budget: Medicare plans have different monthly premiums and out-of-pocket costs.

  • Your health: Some plans have stricter pre-existing condition requirements than others.

  • Your needs: Some plans offer more coverage than others, such as dental or vision care.

Medicare advantage vs. Medicare Supplement

There are two paths that one must choose when going onto Medicare.  Either staying on original Medicare(government insurance) with a supplement or choosing a private insurance plan through Medicare Advantage.

  • Medicare supplement is private insurance, however it is there to supplement the costs of original Medicare.  Original Medicare is federal insurance regulated by the government.  There are many different types of supplements with various costs and  coverages.  The Resolute Advisors team will help you understand the differences between each supplement and find what best fits your needs, lifestyle and budget.

  • Medicare advantage is private insurance, still regulated by the government but all costs are through the private insurance company.  These plans will have traditional deductibles, copays and max out of pockets.  Many of these plans will have ancillary products built into the plan, such as dental, vision, hearing and gym memberships.  The Resolute team will guide you to choose the right plan that fits you and your needs.
